Twenty-three parsons die in roof collapse and electrocution incidents at various places in Punjab following heavy rains

In Punjab, 23 persons died in roof collapse and electrocution incidents at various places in last two days following the heavy rains. On Friday night eight, members of a family were killed when the roof of their house collapsed near Batala in a village in Gurdaspur district. Five persons were killed Friday near Rayia in Amritsar district. Three persons were killed in Amritsar city in a similar incident while one each died in Ludhiana and Muktsar districts. Due to electrocution, five persons were killed in Fazilika district Friday.

Quoting BSF sources, AIR correspondent reports that riverine areas on the border with Pakistan in Gurdaspur and Ferozepur sectors have also got affected but are properly secured by the Border Security Force. Crops especially cotton and paddy has also affected in some areas.

Met department has predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at most places in the State today also. However, Sun is playing hide and seek giving some relief especially in the rain affected areas.
