Electoral Commission of Venezuela says, turnout in the election for a constituent assembly was 41(point)5 percent. Commission President, Tibisay Lucena told in a news conference that just over eight million people voted in the yesterday's election. He said despite the violence, the election was success and the turnout was extraordinary. <br/><br/>The election was marred by violence, with widespread protests and at least 10 people killed. President Nicol's Maduro hailed the election as the biggest ever vote for the revolution. <br/><br/>However, the opposition put the turnout at only 12 percent. It has refused to recognise the election and has called for further protests.<br/><br/>Venezuela faces mounting international criticism over the new assembly. The United States said it is considering fresh sanctions targeting the oil industry there. US has already imposed sanctions on 13 members of Mr Maduro's government. Venezuela has already been suspended from regional economic bloc Mercosur by fellow-members Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, following concern over human rights.
