In Turkey, police today detained 29 suspected Islamic State members in Ankara, after arresting about 120 suspects across the country a day earlier. State-run Anadolu news agency said that in simultaneous raids across the capital, police detained many suspects including foreign nationals.

It said prosecutors issued arrest warrants for 46 people and that materials seized in the raids indicated some of the suspects had made preparations for an attack over New Year. During New Year's celebrations last year, a man with an assault rifle shot dead 39 people including Turks and visitors from several Arab nations, India and Canada at an exclusive nightclub in Istanbul.
