Turkish Air Strikes in Syria Result in Eight Civilian Deaths

In Syria's Kurdish-held northeast, at least eight civilians were killed in Turkish air strikes. According to reports, the strikes came after Ankara launched operations in Iraq and Syria following deadly attacks on its soldiers. Recently, two separate attacks on Turkish bases in northern Iraq killed 12 soldiers with Ankara blaming Kurdish militants for the attack. On Saturday, Turkey announced a new wave of air strikes in retaliation for attacks on its bases. The Turkish strikes hit more than 20 targets, primarily in the Qamishli area of the semi-autonomous Kurdish administration. Farhad Shani, spokesman for the US-backed, Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said on X, formerly Twitter, that the strikes destroyed over 25 civilian facilities and confirmed the death toll of eight civilians.
