Police in Turkey have arrested 12 people suspected of links to Al-Qaeda and seized weapons and explosives in a series of raids. The Anatolia news agency reported that the suspects were allegedly preparing attacks when they were arrested in simultaneous swoops in Istanbul and the eastern city of Van yesterday.Turkish police regularly target suspected Al-Qaeda supporters since two sets of twin suicide bombings hit the country's biggest city Istanbul, five days apart in November 2003. A Turkish cell of Al-Qaeda was held responsible for the attacks, which killed 63 people, including the British consul. Seven men were jailed for life in 2007 for the bombings.
