Turkey gas blast toll rises to 16

In Turkey, the death toll from two explosions triggered by a gas leak in the capital Ankara has risen to 16. The first explosion, which went off on Thursday morning in a factory that produced generators, left seven dead and 34 others wounded in the industrial suburb of Ostim. Rescue teams with sniffer dogs were still searching the rubble for survivors after nightfall when a second explosion ripped through the neighbouring factory making flammable paint products. Four people were originally thought to have died in the second explosion but rescue services said five more bodies have been recovered. Around a dozen people remain trapped in the rubble, with rescue efforts complicated by the presence of toxic chemicals.
