Trying to build consensus on economic bills: Pranab

The Government is trying to build consensus on important economic Bills, including the Pension Fund Regulatory Development Act (PFRDA).

Addressing an economic seminar in New Delhi today the Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee said that though the Bill was introduced in Parliament it could not be passed as the Government did not get required support from other political parties. Mr. Mukerjee further said that the proposal to allow FDI in retail has not been shelved.

Talking of the health of banking sector in the country Mr. Mukerjee assured that the banking sector has enough assets to counter any slowdown. He said that the non-productive assets with the Bank are less than one percent.
