In Andhra Pradesh, Telengana Rastra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhara Rao has been remanded for 14 days. He was arrested today while attempting to ‘fast unto death’ demanding separate Telengana state. The state police have foiled his attempts and taken him into custody at Alugunur on his way to Rangadhampalli near Siddipet, the venue identified to start his fast. He has been shifted to Khammam before presenting him to the magistrate. However, Chandrasekhara Rao said he would continue his fast from the Khamma sub jail where he has been kept.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in several North Telengana Districts such as Medak, Karimnagar and Warangal besides twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad following demonstrations launched by TRS activists protesting arrests of their leaders. Several students were injured when police resorted to lathi-charge in Osmania, Kakatiya and Telengana University campuses. However city police commissioner, Prasada Rao said the situation is under control.

On the other hand, security in all the Telengana districts has been beefed up following TRS call for Bandh in the Region tomorrow. Additional forces have been deployed at all the sensitive places.

Political parties across the spectrum have condemned the arrest of Chandrasekhara Rao. Meanwhile, Home Minister Sabitha Reddy has called upon the TRS activists to observe peace.
