In Andhra Pradesh, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K. Chandrasekhar Rao broke his fast unto death shortly after last midnight following an announcement by Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram in New Delhi on Telangana issue. As announced by TRS President’s son K.T.Rama Rao the home Minister said the process of formation of Telangana would be initiated by moving a resolution in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly. The TRS President ended his 11-day hunger strike at 0010 hours last night at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences after accepting a glass of juice from Telangana ideologue K. Jayashankar and other party leaders. The impasse ended after His son K. T. Rama Rao, welcomed home minister’s statement. He said the way forward would only be the introduction of a Bill in Parliament.<br/><br/>A frail-looking Rao said in a feeble voice that he was thankful to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Leader of the Opposition L K Advani and leaders of all other political parties for supporting the cause of Telangana statehood.<br/><br/>Earlier, the Home Minister has said that the process to form the state of Telangana will be initiated . He said an appropriate resolution will be moved in Andhra Pradesh assembly in this regard. Speaking to reporters last night, Mr P Chidambaram, said the chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has been requested to withdraw the cases filed on or after 29th of last month against all the leaders, students and others associated with the present agitation. He said that the Chief Minister has assured the centre that he will take steps in this regard. The Home Minister<br/>also appealed to all concerned specially to end students to end their agitation.<br/><br/>The move came after the Centre and the Congress party were involved in hectic efforts to defuse the crisis triggered by Chandrasekhara Rao's fast-unto-death to press his demand for a separate state out of Andhra Pradesh. The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh chaired two rounds of discussions of the Congress Core Group with Sonia Gandhi and senior ministers in which various proposals were understood to have been deliberated upon.The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh who was Delhi told reporters in that it was for the Centre to take a decision.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent M.S. Lakshmi reports from Hyderabad that soon after the announcement from Centre that a process for the formation of separate state for Telangana will be initiated cheers rang out across the Telangana region. Overjoyed groups of people danced in the streets and burst crackers while emotional scenes were witnessed at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad. Following an emergency TRS Polite Bureau meeting at the hospital it self, Chandrasekhara Rao broke his fast by accepting a glass of juice offered by the Telangana ideologue, Prof. Jayashanker and other party leaders. Breaking down into tears repeatedly, the TRS president said five decades of struggle for separate state had come to a concluding stage. He paid homage to all Telangana martyrs who laid their lives for the cause. Though the centre has not announced yet any time-frame for the formation of the new state, a resolution would be moved in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for the purpose. Chandrasekhar Rao’s calling off stir will defuse the tension that gripped the state due to the proposed peace rally to assembly by students and sporadic violence in Telangana region since 29th of last month and help restoring normality in Hyderabad where large contingents of security forces were deployed.
