TRS called 48-hour bandh paralyses normal life in Andhra

In Andhra Pradesh, normal life was paralysed across Telangana as the 48-hour bandh called by TRS and other parties to protest the Centre's latest statement on Telangana issue began. The Centre had yesterday said there is a need to hold wide ranging consultations with all the political parties and groups in Andhra Pradesh on the issue as the situation in the state has altered since the announcement on the creation of a separate Telegana state.<br/><br/>Students and other Telangana supporters came out on the streets and resorted to stone pelting on buses and shops in Hyderabad and other Telangana districts. Violence broke out in Hyderabad, Warangal and other places in the region as police resorted to baton-charge to disperse protesters. 120 people were arrested.<br/><br/>In the state capital, Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) suspended services in the city and other Telangana districts. A large number of commuters were stranded in Hyderabad as the city buses run by APSRTC remained off the roads.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, following the resignation of Telangana Rashtra Samiti President K Chandrasekhar Rao, eight of the party's MLAs have put in their papers. 30 Congress party MLAs and MLCs belonging to Telangana region have tendered their resignations to Assembly Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy today. Stating that the Centre’s announcement has disappointed them, the MLAs have urged the party high command to rethink over Telangana issue and fix up a time bound to carve out separate Telangana state. 39 Telugu Desam Party MLAs and MLCs belonging to Telangana region also have announced their intention to resign to assembly in protest to the alleged delay in the process to carve out Telangana state.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent M.S. Lakshmi reports from Hyderabad that the elected representatives belonging to Telangana region across the party lines have announced their intention to put in their papers protesting the Centre’s yesterday’s announcement over Telangana issue. Stating that the people of their region are disappointed with the Centre’s announcement on the issue, the legislators, both MLAs and MLCs across party lines have begun tendering their resignation to Assembly Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy. Meanwhile, the MLAs and MLCs belonged to Rayalaseema and Coasta Andhra Regions have decided to withdraw their resignation tendered 10days ago protesting the centre’s decision to initiate process to carve pout Telangana state. After holding a meeting of MLAs and MLCs forum for Unified state, the Forum convenor Sailajanath said the centre has recognised their feelings of the people of Rayalaseema and Coasta Andhra regions. On the other hand, the public life in the entire Telangana region has come to almost stand still once again with in two weeks while the additional para-military forces are expected to reach the state in the wake of 48-hour bandh being observed in the region.
