Tripartite talks on Gorkhaland today

The seventh round of tripartite talks involving the Centre, West Bengal Government and the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) will be held in New Delhi today.According to Home Ministry sources, the issue of setting up an interim authority in Darjeeling for the Gorkhas and its territorial jurisdiction would come up for discussion. Both the Centre and the ruling Left Front Government are for limiting the proposed Darjeeling regional authority to just the three hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong. However, the GJM, which has been demanding a separate Gorkhaland state, is demanding parts of north Bengal plains as well to be included in the proposed administrative set up. The last round of official level tripartite talks held in May had ended in a stalemate.
