Tripartite meeting of Afghanistan, the United States and Pakistan to discuss peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan ended in Islamabad. Speaking at a joint press conference after the meeting Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Javid Ludin said that reconciliation process in Afghanistan will depend on the cooperation from Islamabad. He said that Pakistan can offer help in bringing the Taliban leadership to the negotiating table. The United States envoy Marc Grossman expressed solidarity with Afghanistan in countering terrorism and reiterated that the reconciliation process should be Afghan-led and Afghan-owned. Pakistani Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir also attended the meeting. He supported the all inclusive broad-based process of reconciliation in Afghanistan. The trilateral forum for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan was established earlier this year but the body has not yet succeeded to encourage the Taliban to join the peace process.
