Tripartite Gorkha talks remain inconclusive

The Tripartite talks involving the Centre, Gorkha Janmukhti Morcha and the West Bengal Government remained inconclusive today. Speaking to reporters after holding the talks with the Minister of State for Home Ajay Maken and the West Bengal representative Surya Kant Mishra, the head of the 14 member delegation of the Morcha Roshan Giri said that the talks were held in a cordial atmosphere but there was no outcome and the next round of talks will be held in the middle of next month. The setting up an interim authority in Darjeeling for the Gorkhas and its territorial jurisdiction were on today's agenda of talks. Both the Centre and the ruling Left Front government are for limiting the proposed Darjeeling regional authority to just three hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong. However, the Morcha, which has been demanding a separate Gorkhaland state, is demanding parts of north Bengal plains as well to be included in the proposed administrative set up. The last round of official level tripartite talks held in May had ended in a stalemate.
