Trinidad and Tobago PM arrives in Delhi

The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Mrs. Kamla Persad Bissessar arrived in New Delhi today on her 10 day state visit.

She is accompnied by a high level Ministerial and Business delegation.

Briefing to media persons in New Delhi, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Sayed Akhabaruddin said that during her visit, five agreements are likely to be signed between the two countries.

These include agreement on Culture, Cooperation in Technical education and traditional medicines and Aayush.

The spokesperson said that discussions between the Leaders of the two countries will cover various issues in the bilateral interaction between India and Trinidad and Tobago as also cover regional and international issues of mutual interest.

He said relations between India and Trinidad and Tobago are time-tested and based on strong historical and cultural linkages.

Mr. Akhbaruddin said it is first such visit in nearly 15 years and will provide an opportunity to further consolidate and expand the mutually beneficial relations between the two friendly countries.

He further said Mrs. Bissessar is the first woman of Indian origin who is heading a government.

AIR correspondent reports that Mrs. Bissessar is the Chief Guest during this year’s Pravasi Bhartiya Divas being held in Jaipur from 7 of this month. She will be conferred Pravasi Bhartiya Samman in Jaipur.

Besides Delhi and Jaipur, she will also visit Jodhpur,Kolkata and Mumbai. She will also visit her ancestral village in Buxar district of Bihar
