In Manipur, All India Trinamool Congress candidate Konthoujam Sharat Singh won in the Konthoujam Assembly Constituency bye-election. This is the first time that Trinamool Congress has opened an account in the state.Singh defeated his nearest rival Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh of Congress by a margin of 655 votes. Polling of votes for the bye-election was held on the 14th of this month. The bye-election was necessitated due to the demise of Dr. Sapam Budhichandra Singh, former Speaker of the state legislative assembly.
