Tricolour will fly high always: Prez

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil has said that India is firmly committed to peace. However, she asserted that if conflict is thrust upon the country, its armed forces would keep the tricolour flying high.She was speaking after conferring the Presidential Standard to the 31 Squadron and Colours to the 9 Base Repair Depot of the Indian Air Force based at Lohgaon near Pune in an impressive ceremony today.Both the units of IAF were bestowed with these honours in recognition of their glorious service during war as well as peace to the nation in the last more than 40 years.The 31 Squadron was established in 1963 and has played major role in 1965 and 1971 wars. Presently, it is entrusted with maintenance and training of pilots of Sukhoi-30 fighter aircrafts as well as security of central India . The 9 Base Repair Depot formed in 1957 undertakes repair and servicing of a variety of avionics, ground to air communication equipment, radar and navigational aids and airfield support equipment.The Air Force troupes and Sukhoi fighter aircrafts presented a dazzling display on the occasion. Also two memoirs chronicling the history and service of these two units were published at the hands of the President.
