The nation pays homage today to veteran freedom fighter and former Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram on his 105th birth anniversary. The day is being celebrated as Samata Diwas. Special programmes are being organised throughout the country. Babu Jagjivan Ram strove for over fifty years to usher in a just and egalitarian society and for empowering the underprivileged.
Homage was paid to him this morning at his samadhi, Samata Sthal, in Delhi. An all religion prayer meeting was also held in New Delhi. A memorial lecture by Nobel Peace Prize winner Ms. Tawakkol Karman of Yemen, is also being organised to mark the day. A “Shobha Yatra” from Red Fort to Samata Sthal is also being conducted today.
