Tributes being paid to soldiers on Flag Day

The Armed Forces Flag Day is being observed today throughout the country. In his message, President Pranab Mukherjee said, this day reminds of people's responsibility towards the Armed Forces for their contributions to the motherland. <br/><br/>He said, Indian Armed Forces have been serving the nation with great distinction both during war and peace and they have consistently displayed the highest standards of professionalism and excellence in every task entrusted to them. He said, the Armed Forces have ensured the protection of the territorial integrity, fought the scourge of terrorism and provided succour to fellow citizens in times of natural calamities. <br/> <br/>In his message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, Armed Forces Flag Day is a day to remember the valour of the armed forces and donate generously for the welfare of armed forces personnel. He said, the armed forces sacrifice their lives for people. Mr Modi called on people to pledge to contribute towards welfare of families of the brave personnel.<br/><br/>Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has appealed to all the citizens to demonstrate their solidarity with the Armed Forces by contributing generously to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund. Mr Parrikar said by donating to the fund and proudly displaying the flags, the nation expresses support for the gallant Armed Forces personnel of the country. <br/><br/>He stated that the Day offers an opportunity to express gratitude to the Armed Forces personnel, who have set exemplary standards of dedication, patriotism and courage in protecting the integrity of the country and not only to resolutely defend the borders of the great nation, but also render valuable service during national calamities and combating internal insurgencies in various States.
