In Punjab, cultural and social organisations are organising cultural functions to pay tributes to singer Mohammed Rafi on his death anniversary today. He was born and brought up in village Kotla Sultan Singh of Amritsar district. He died on this day in 1980. He made a debut in film songs at the age of 15 in 1939 in Laila Majnu film. He was awarded Film Fare award for 22 times. Some cultural organisations of Punjab have demanded setting up of a music academy in his name at Amritsar.
