Tribal woman from Odisha's Mayurbhanj district empowers more than 200 women through her handicraft company

Usha Rani Naik, a tribal woman from the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha has empowered more than 200 women through her eco-friendly handicraft company that uses Sabai grass to make handicrafts.<br />'' <br />''Despite being a dropout, she proved her determination and now inspiring women to be  'Atmanirbhar'.<br />'' <br />''AIR correspondent reports, the resident of a small village Gujaldihi Usha Rani didn't give up even in the time of adversity.<br />'' <br />''Fighting social taboo and patriarchal society of Bathudi tribe she stood against every odd.<br />'' <br />''She moved to Gujaldihi after her marriage. From the beginning, she always wanted to be self-reliant.<br />'' <br />''After failing at many business ideas, with the help of District Industrial Corporation (DIC), she started producing handicraft items from Sabai Grass.<br />'' <br />''Despite initial hurdles even in this business, Usha has turned her business into a profitable venture.<br />'' <br />''She believed that women should be empowered to support themselves and their families. Now she is running a Self-Help Group.<br />'' <br />''Initially, she has begun her entrepreneurial journey with only ten women.<br />'' <br />''Today her team with around 200 women runs a successful business of Sabai grass handicraft which is called Mayurbhanj Sabai Farmers Producers Company Limited.<br />'' <br />''Last year only Usha's SGH sold products worth 30 Lakhs and gained a profit of 19 Lakh.  Speaking to AIR News about her journey Usha Rani said-<br />''<br />''Looking at the success of the Usha Rani's SHG group, the Odisha Government established a dedicated section in the two handicraft outlets of 'Mayurashilpa' in the Baripada and Bhubaneswar.<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">This tribal from a very remote village is surely an example for other women who want to be self-reliant.</span><br />
