In Orissa, tribal leader Sananda Marandi was on Wednesday unanimously elected as the deputy speaker of the state assembly. Mr. Marandi, who represents Baripada constituency in Mayurbhanj district, became the 18th deputy speaker of the house. He was the lone candidate for the post which had remained vacant since May 2011.
