Trend of disruptions in legislative institutions unhealthy for democracy: Prez

President Pranab Mukherjee has called upon members of parliament and state legislative assemblies to give much more time to debate.

Addressing the Himachal Pradesh State Assembly as part of its golden jubilee year at Shimla today he said the trend of disruption in legislative institutions is not good for the healthy democracy.

President said that the word disruption has no place in the text of political science.

Our correspondent reports that the President Sh. Pranab Mukherjee said three D’s are important for democracy and that are Debate, Dissension and Decision but word disruption has no place in the text of Political Science.

He appealed members for a unanimous solution to stop this disruption trend and advised young legislatures to give much more time on debate before making any law.

Sh.Mukherjee said that he is feeling proud to address this assembly where many times history had been created and in this regard he gave one example of decision about voting rights for womens on Pandit Moti Lal Nehru’s efforts in 1925. President lauded the Himachal Vidhan Sabha for keeping its high traditions and values during last fifty years.

He described assembly as a model in the country by saying that in a calander year this assembly has always complete its sittings schedule which is not only necessary for a parliamentary democracy but also an example in the present time when many state assemblies are not doing so.

Earlier Governor Mrs.Urmila Singh, Chief Minister Sh.Virbhadra Singh, Speaker Brij Behari Lal Butail and Leader of Opposition Sh. Prem Kumar Dhumal also spoke on this occasion and welcome Sh.Mukherjee
