In Tamil Nadu, tree plantation works will be implemented for the first time under MGNREGA Scheme in Tiruchirapalli. Our correspondent reports that Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (MGNREGA) is being successfully implemented in Tiruchirapalli. For the first time tree plantation works will be taken up under this scheme in the district according to DRDO Project Director Radha. The Forest department has assured to supply enough saplings for this afforestation scheme. In the first phase, lands around Panchayat offices, Anganwadi centres, wastelands will be identified in all the 402 panchayats and tree saplings will be planted. In the second phase even private lands will be brought under the scheme. In this fiscal Rs 175 crore has been allocated to Trichy under MGNREGS. At present more than 3 lakh 22 thousand job cards have been issued. Of this almost 85 per cent are women.
