The Ministry of Road Transport and highways has drawn up a proposal for cashless treatment of victims of road accidents on the National Highways. According to an official release, under the project a 24 hours toll-free number for ambulance services will be provided. The ambulances will shift accident victims to the nearest hospital in the shortest possible time and arrangement of rescue vehicle and hydraulic cutters will also be available for extricating accident victims trapped inside a crashed vehicle and clearing the accident site. The proposal also includes setting up a network of empanelled hospitals to provide cashless medical treatment to the accident victims for the first 48 hours.
