The Defence Minister A.K. Antony has said that the country is going through a transparency revolution which can't be stopped midway. He said the transition was facing problems as the country including politicians, bureaucrats, businessmen, armed forces and all those who are holding key position are not ready for this transition. He quipped that secrecy is becoming a thing of the past. The Defence Minister was talking to reporters in New Delhi on Wednesday morning after inaugurating a new conference hall of the Press Club of India. Antony's observations assume significance against the backdrop of agitations demanding more openness and accountability in Government functioning.Cautioning the media against being manipulated by vested interests, he observed that in the industrialised society there is a clash of interests between various groups. He urged the media to work as the vanguard of democracy as they have greater social responsibility.Crediting Parliament for increasing transparency in the country, Antony said, the Right to Information Act, passed by Parliament in 2005, will help the transparency revolution percolate to all walks of life, organisations and ultimately all families. He expressed hope that in coming years, the RTI Act will spread to new areas.
