The Comptroller and Auditor General of India Vinod Rai has said that transparency is the need of the hour for a corruption-free society and good governance. He cautioned that if timely steps are not taken to overcome trust and governance deficit, it can prove detrimental to the society. Mr Rai was delivering the keynote address at public colloquium on Fundamental Duties in Shimla yesterday. Expressing concern over deficit of governance, ethics and trust, he said, in the era of globalisation, common citizens have come at the centre stage. Mr Rai asked the younger generation to shoulder the responsibility of diverting the 'mainstream' in a right direction and to educate the people about their duties as well as rights towards the self and society.
