Transmissions of AIR and Doordarshan stop in Andhra Pradesh

The transmissions of All India Radio and Doordarshan have been completely stopped in Andhra Pradesh as the Programme and Engineering staff have launched a 48-hour strike this morning. The broadcasts from all stations of these Public Broadcasters in the state were crippled since 9' O clock this morning. The National Federation of Akashvani and Doordarshan Employees (NFADE) has launched the strike demanding the Central Government to repeal the Prasar Bharati Act. NFADE state coordinator Murali Mohan said the strike has been called to draw government attention to the fact that despite the Act coming into existence in 1997, service conditions, recruitment rules and other administrative procedures were yet to be put in place. NFADE State Secretary Gopichand said over 3000 employees from 23 associations are participating in the strike.
