Trains suspended, security tightened in northeast India

<br/>In Assam, the North East Frontier Railway has decided to suspend night running of trains in the State with effect from 6 p.m. on January 24 till January 27. Night running of trains will resume from January 28. According to official sources, the decision to this effect was taken for security reasons in a meeting of the North East Frontier Railway with the State Government held on Thursday in Guwahati.<br/> Meanwhile, security across the state has been put on a maximum alert ahead of Republic Day following intelligence inputs about possible attacks by ULFA extremists and anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) in the run up to the Republic Day. The security forces are keeping round-the-clock vigil in and around sensitive locations and other vital installations to thwart extremist threats. Security forces are carrying out frisking operations and putting up mobile check posts in sensitive areas.
