Train derails in Maharashtra's Raigad district; 15 killed

At least fifteen passengers were killed and fifty injured in a train mishap on Konkan railway route this morning. More details from our correspondent “A passenger train running from Diva to Sawantwadi on Kokan railway route derailed between Nagothane and Roha in the Raigad district of Maharashtra today morning. According central railway officials’ mishap took place when train’s engine and four coaches came off the track at the Bhisekhind Tunnel near Nagothane in Raigad district around 9 30 today morning. The official also informed that the rescue and relief operation is in progress. Special medical relief trains were rushed to the spot. Besides Maharashtra State Transport (ST) buses have also been rushed to Nagothane to carry the survived passengers. Meanwhile, the injured have been admitted to Roha Rural government Hospital”.

Railways today ordered an inquiry into the derailment of the passenger train. It announced an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees for those killed in the accident, 50 thousand for the grievously hurt and 10,000 for those who suffered minor injuries.
