In Assam, three persons died and 13 passengers have been injured when nine coaches of the ‘Chilarai Express’-running between New Bongaigaon and Guwahati derailed near Mirza in Kamrup district this morning. Three of the injured are stated to be critical while ten others sustained minor injuries.The incident occurred when the train, coming from New Bongaigaon to Guwahati hit a JCB excavator in an unmanned level-crossing between Mirza and Azara railway stations in Kamrup district at around 9.00 on Friday morning. The driver and two other riders of the JCB died on the spot. The North East Frontier Railway authority has dispatched medical and rescue teams to the incident spot. A team of the National Disaster Response Force and the local people of the area are also rendering help for rescue of the passengers from the derailed bogies. The injured have been rushed to the Railway Hospital at Maligaon and the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. Meanwhile, the State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has sent the Agriculture Minister Nilmoni Sen Deka to oversee the rescue operation of the ill-fated passengers at the accident spot.The North East Frontier Railway has set up helpline numbers for information of the train passengers.
