Train accident kills three persons in UP

At least three passengers were killed and 15 injured, some of them seriously, in a train accident this morning near Tundla Railway Station in Agra district of Uttar Pradesh. The injured have been admitted to local hospitals while two seriously injured persons have been rushed to Agra. Our Lucknow Correspondent reports that the accident occured when Kalindi Express dashed from behind the stationary Shramshakti Express at outer signal of the Railway station around 8.15 this morning. Officials said, according to preliminary reports, thick fog is believed to be cause of the accident.<br/><br/>The Railway Ministry has ordered an enquiry into the accident by the Commissioner (Railway Safety), P.K. Vajpayee. The Railway Minister, Ms. Mamta Banerjee has directed a team of three senior officials from New Delhi to rush to the accident site. The accident has disrupted train movement on the busiest Delhi-Howrah route and efforts are on to restore it at the ealiest.<br/><br/>The North Central Railway sources told AIR that two bogies of Shram Shakti express were damaged and about a dozen passengers who were trapped inside have been rescued. The damaged boggies have been separated and despatched to Kanpur. Relief operations are on and a medical team of the railways is already at the accident site. One lakh rupees will be given to those who received serious injuries while ten thousand rupees to passengers who received minor injuries.<br/><br/>Both the affected trains are being taken to Tundla railway station to provide refreshments to the passengers.
