The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India today said that all possible steps should be taken to plug the loopholes to prevent consumers' database from getting disclosed to telemarketeers. Addressing the media after an open house discussion with consumers, tele marketeers and service providers on ways to curb the menace of Unsolicited Commercial Communication in New Delhi today, Chairman of TRAI, Dr J S Sarma accepted that National Do Not Call (NDNC) Registry has failed. He called for comprehensive review of NDNC Registry which became operational in October 2007. He added that a vast majority of customers who do not wish to receive UCC are not registered with NDNC registry. According to TRAI's latest reports less than 11 percent of total telephone subscribers were registered for Do Not Call in NDNC registry till 31st march 2010. TRAI has suggested the option of National Do Call registry to be explored to deal with this problem. Mr. Sarma announced that TRAI will give the final proposal on Unsolicited Commercial Communications(UCC) Regulations in about a months time.
