The Telecom regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has started the process of auction of the 2G spectrum licence. It released a pre-consultation paper on allocation of airwaves in the 2G band across 22 circles by auction on Friday. It asked all the stakeholders to give their comments by February 15.
The TRAI move came a day after the Supreme Court scrapped 122 telecom licences and sought fresh auction of the 2G spectrum. The Court verdict has asked the regulatory authority to adhere to the Central Government's focus on allocation of spectrum only through auction.
The Apex Court in its order had asked the Government to seek fresh recommendations from TRAI on allocation of licences and spectrum in the case.
