TRAI for upto RS 2 lakh fine on telcos that report tariff late

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, TRAI has proposed to levy a late fee of up to Rs 2 lakh on telecom operators which do not report tariff to it within seven days of its implementation.

In a draft amendment to the Telecommunication Tariff Order (TTO), 1999 proposes to prescribe financial disincentives on the operators in case they violate the reporting requirements and levy excess charges on consumers.

As per the provisions of TTO, operators are required to report tariff to Trai within seven days from the date of implementation.

TRAI said it has been noticed that the time limit is not being strictly followed by operators. Telecom regulator will notify the Tariff Order after considering the views of stakeholders, which are required to submit the comments by August 20, 2012.
