TRAI consultation paper seeks stakeholder views on reviewing roaming facility charges

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, TRAI, has released a consultation paper seeking views of stakeholders to review rates of mobile calls and SMSes that are currently charged from a customer on availing roaming facility. It has asked the stakeholders to provide their views on Review of Tariff for National Roaming by 18th of next month. An official release said, an additional consideration for carrying out the review is to address the objective of working towards One Nation – Free Roaming stated in the National Telecom Policy 2012.Our correspondent reports, mobile phone customers are generally charged one rupee for outgoing local call, one and a half rupee for outgoing STD call and one rupee for incoming call on per minute basis. Customers are charged one and a half rupee on each outgoing SMS.
