TRAI Amendment Bill introduced in Parliament

The Government today introduced the Telecom Regulatory Authority
Amendment Bill 2014 in the Lok Sabha.

Moving the Bill, to replace the
ordinance, Communication and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the
Bill aims at removing the restriction on the re-employment of a person
who served as Chairman and full-time member in the Telecom Regulatory
Authority of India (TRAI).

The ordinance was issued on May 28th of this year.

It was opposed by some members including Sougata Roy of the TMC. He alleged that the amendment is being brought to facilitate one officer.

Quoting party sources, PTI said the BJP has issued a whip to its members in the Lok Sabha to support the TRAI (Amendment) Bill, 2014.
