Traffic lanes for CWG to become operational from Sept 20

The exclusive lanes for Commonwealth Games will become operational from the 20th of this month and violators will face a fine of Rs. 2,000 and their vehicles will be impounded. A notification to this effect has been issued by the Lieutenant Governor's office. To give road users sufficient exposure of the traffic movement during and before the October 3-14 Games, trials have been planned for three days from Wednesday.Meanwhile Capital Delhi is all set to provide excellent services to the speactators of the Commonwealth Games, beginning on the third of October. Briefing reporters in New Delhi this evening, Major General C. G. Dwivedi, Head of Spectator Services said that the staff is fully geared up to provide the best of services. There are three different categories of tickets for spectators. They will be valid for one time entry and if a person goes out in between the ticket becomes invalid and it will have to be validated again. Dedicated gates have been earmarked which will find mention on the ticket. The seats will be numbered for the opening and closing ceremonies.However, there will be open seating for the rest of the events. A list of prohibited items has also been prepared as part of security mesures. Other facilities like information booths, toilets, medical rooms will also be available. The spectators will also be able to buy food, water and other items from various stalls which will be located inside the speactator plaza.An estimated 1.7 million visitors are expected to visit various stadia over 12 days. Apart from 195 staff, an energetic team of 2650 volunteers will be there to help the spectators. The volunteers are primarily students.
