In Egypt, efforts to draft the new Constitution of the country met with a setback as trade union representatives resigned from the 50-member Constitution drafting panel. The Head of the state-controlled Egyptian Trade Union Federation, Abdel-Fattah Ibrahim said, the step has been taken in opposition to the move to do away with the 50 percent quota of Parliamentary seats for workers and farmers in the new Parliament. He said the move would marginalize Egypt's workers and farmers and urged all classes of Egyptian workers to vote against the Constitution. However, the panel's official spokesperson Mohamed Salmamawy disputed Ibrahim's claims and said representatives of workers and farmers had agreed to the move. Under the roadmap announced after the ouster of former President Mohammed Morsi, by December the constitution draft should be ready to be put up for a nationwide referendum. Fresh Parliament and Presidential elections would be as per laws framed by the new Constitution.
