Trade deficit widens to $16.86 bn in Nov

India's trade deficit has widened to one-and-a-half year high of 16.86 billion dollar in November this year due to high jump in gold imports. However, merchandise exports went up by 7.27 per cent to 25.96 billion in November this year after recording a contraction in October. Gold imports stood at 5.61 billion dollar in November this year. According to the data released by the Commerce Ministry, total imports in November, including oil, jumped by 26.79 per cent to 42.82 billion dollars.Trade deficit in November 2013 was 9.57 billion dollar. It said, during April to November, 2014, imports were up 4.65 per cent to 316.37 billion dollar while exports were up 5.02 per cent to 15.75 billion dollar.Trade deficit during this period stood at 100.61 billion as against 96.89 billion dollar in the same period last fiscal.
