Trade deficit widens to $11.79 bln in 2015

The country's trade deficit widened by 1.3 billion dollars to 137.01 billion dollars in the financial year 2015 as against 135.8 billion a year ago. The Indian exports at 310.5 billion dollars missed the annual target by 11.52 per cent. India had set a target of 340 billion dollars. Imports contracted by 13.44 per cent to 35.74 billion dollars, leaving a trade deficit of 11.79 billion dollars which its highest in four months.The oil imports has declined by 16 per cent. Merchandise exports declined for the fourth straight month to 23.95 billion dollars in March, compared with 30.34 billion dollars a year earlier. Gold imports for the month of March nearly doubled to 4.98 billion dollars.
