In Andhra Pradesh, at least 9 women were killed and five more injured when a tractor fell into a canal near Sathenapalli in Guntur District this morning. District Police said about 25 agriculture labourers, most of them women, belonging to Voddepalli were going in a tractor trolley for harvesting work in chilli fields. So far, 9 bodies have been retrieved and the five injured were admitted in a nearby hospital for treatment. Police also said search operation is underway for the others. Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has expressed shock over the accident and announced an ex-gratia of 1 lakh rupees each to the families of the victims under Apadbandhu scheme. He also directed the district administration to provide all medical help to the injured.
