The Women and Child Development ministry will soon launch a web portal named 'Track Child', which will serve as a central database of all those children who have gone missing in different parts of the country. Informing this in New Delhi today, Women and Child Development Secretary, Prem Narain said the portal will act as a coordination mechanism between child homes, police departments and state governments. He said as soon as a child is enlisted in a home, or whenever a missing FIR is registered in a police station, the details will be put on the portal. Mr. Narain said the ministry will coordinate with police heads, social welfare departments of various states and other agencies to create this mechanism. The Secretary said the ministry is also considering a proposal to create a National Institute of Women Affairs, which will serve as a think tank for women-related matters.
