Toyota Motor Corporation will begin to recall a total of 91,903 cars in Japan due to engine problem on Friday. The Japanese automaker today said the recall will cover seven Lexus models including LS600h, and the Toyota Crown. The models subject to recall were made between July 27, 2005 and August 21, 2008. The company said the engine problem may lead to engine malfunction and could cause the car to stop while the vehicle is running. Toyota said it had received 220 complaints regarding the problem but no reports of accidents related to the defect. The company announced overseas recalls would follow soon. It was reported there were about 180,000 such vehicles in markets outside Japan, including some 130,000 in the United States and 6, 000 in China. The automaker has already recalled more than 8 million vehicles globally for problems involving accelerator pedals, floor mats and brakes.
