Tourist’s arrival in Sikkim this year crosses seven lakhs

Unlike other parts of the country, tourists are enjoying a bright sunshine in Sikkim, though with intermittent cloudy and chilly weather. Despite the fact that most of the higher reaches of the State have yet to witness the snowfall of the season, tourists continue to make a beeline for the popular tourist’s destinations like Nathula, Baba Mandir, Chhangu Lake and Lachen-Lachung.The President of the Travel Agents Association of Sikkim ( TAAS), Mr.Lukendra Rasaily told AIR Gangtok correspondent today that some three thousand tourists are visiting these spots everyday. He said that the hotels in the State too are having seventy percent occupancy at the moment, with the New Year knocking at the door. On the other hand, the tourist’s arrival figures in Sikkim this year have already crossed the seven lakhs mark which include more than twenty five thousand foreigners as well. According to the State’s Tourism Secretary Mr. S.B.S. Bhadauria, these exceed the figures of the last year by one lakh.
