Tourism minister seeks investment by private sector to boost tourism industry

Tourism minister Subodh Kant Sahai has sought investment by private sector to boost tourism industry in the country. Inaugurating the International Hospitality Fair-2012 in New Delhi today, he said, that allowing FDI in multi brand retail by the government recently is an important step to enhance growth in the retail sector. He said, FDI in retail is prerequisite for the robust economic growth. He also asked the exhibitors to double the trade to increase the jobs in the tourism sector. Mr Sahai maintained that India has a very lucrative market for foreign tourists and has attracted global players as an investment destination in hospitality industry.
AIR correspondent reports, the exhibitors will include in the three day fair, suppliers of equipments and services of food and bevarage, dairy products, interiors and fixtures, housekeeping. Over 150 exhibitors are participating and around 6500 visitors are expected during the fair.
