Total renewable power installed capacity reached 16,810 Mega Watts

Government today said the total renewable power installed capacity in the country has reached 16,810 Mega Watts. New and Renewable Energy Minister Mr Farooq Abdullah today informed the Lok Sabha that the share of renewable power is 10 per cent of the total installed capacity. He said an amount of over 500 crore rupees has been earmarked for research and development in the field. The Minister informed the House that solar power is being installed in many buildings in Delhi, including the Parliament House. He added that installed capacity of solar energy will be over 20,000 mega watts by 2022. Mr Abdullah added that loans are available for installing solar energy cells for domestic use at 0 per cent interest rate, and for commercial use at 5 per cent interest.
