Torrential rains lashed Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh while mercury rose in some parts of north India, including the national capital, in the absence of showers oin Monday. Six people perished in heavy rains lashing parts of Chattisgarh, including capital Raipur as the downpour triggered flash floods in Surguja, Janjgir andDantewada districts from where most of the casualties were reported.Three people died in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh taking the death toll in the state this season to 60.Major rivers continued to swell resulting in a flood-like situation in a number of districts of the state. In Rajasthan, an alert was sounded in Barmer district where heavy rains for the past three days inundated a number of villages. However water has started receding with the rains subsiding a little towards the later part of the day.Monsoon has also been vigorous over Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh. Moderate to heavy rainfall occurred at most places in these areas.Meanwhile, temperatures showed a rising trend in Punjab and Haryana in the absence of rains.Hisar was the hottest at 37 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal, followed by Ambala 35.7 degree Celsius, up by two notches. However, the Met Office has forecast moderate to rather heavy rain and thunder showers at a few places in the region.With rains eluding the national capital for another day, mercury rose by a few notches in the city which experienced high humidity levels touching 86 per cent. The maximum stood at 36.4 degree Celsius, two notches above normal, while the minimum settled at 28.7 degrees. The Met department predicts few spells of rain and thundershowers with the mercury expected to touch a high of 34 degrees.
