Top Maoist arrested in Odisha’s Baragarh dist

In Odisha, one of the top Maoist has been arrested by police in Baragarh district. Briefing newsmen, Baragah Superintendent Police Kavita Jalan on Tuesday said, Dhiren Mahato alias Girish was arrested by a team of police personnel from Kharamunda village under Attabira police station over 350 km from Bhubaneswar during a search operation.She also said, Mahato was the second in-command in the outlawed Communist Party of India Maoist’s Odisha unit hierarchy. He was also a member of the State organizing committee of the CPI Maoist.Mahato was wanted in dozens of criminal cases both in Odisha and neighboring Jharkhand.In Odisha alone, at least 27 cases were pending against him, which include several murders, abductions, extortions, blasts, arson and loot.The Police also arrested his aide Shankar Cherua alias Munda during search operation and recovered one mouser, maoist literature and 12 live cartridges from them.
