Top leaders on whirl wind campaign in TN

In Tamil Nadu, amidst simmering summer heat, electioneering has warmed up with personal attacks, charges and counter charges dominating the campaign as election day nears. The top leaders including the DMK Chief M.Karunanidhi and AIADMK Supremo Jayalalitha are on a whirl wind campaign.Addressing road side meeting in Dharmapuri District, Karuanidhi said the DMK had in toto implemented all the assurances given to the people in the 2006 election manifesto. AIADMK leaderJayalalitha, who addressed meetings in Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts, blamed the state government for price rise, power cuts and deterioration of law and order.Senior National leaders including Congress President Sonia Gandhi, CPIM General Secretary Prakash Karat, BJP leader Arun Jaitley are expected in the next couple days to address Election rallies.Meanwhile, state election department sources said that additional companies of paramilitary forces have been sought from the Election commission. The commission had already agreed to send 200 companies of central forces to the state. As electioneering gains momentum, the number of complaints on violations of model code of conduct has crossed 50,000. Unaccounted cash amounting to 20 crore rupees have been seized of which, 5 crores of cash which have been accounted for, has been returned.
