Top leader of banned GNLA arrested in Bangalore

In a major breakthrough, a top leader of the outlawed Garo National Liberation Army, GNLA was arrested in Bangalore yesterday.

Director General of Meghalaya Police Peter James Pyngrope Hanaman said in Shillong that Rapiush Ch Sangma, Deputy Chairman of GNLA was arrested from his residence in Bangalore.

Describing the arrest as a big catch, Hanaman said the arrest of Sangma will have an impact on the GNLA organisational level strategy.

Sangma was accused of being instrumental in planning all kidnappings, extortions and other anti social activities in Garo Hills region which were executed by the GNLA.
